TEXAS DEMOCRATIC VETERANS (TDV) was established on June 14,2002 at the Texas Democratic Convention's Veterans' Caucus in El Paso, Texas. This was the first time that a veterans group was established with a state Democratic Party. Today, more states have formed a veterans caucus within the state Democratic Party and the Democratic National Committee has a veterans committee.
Our mission from the start has been to provide a forum for veterans and their non-veteran supporters to discuss and promote veterans issues and programs within the Texas Democratic Party. We have recently added being a voice and a source of information to the Texas Democratic Party on national security policies and issues. Our efforts have not been limited to the Texas Democratic Party. We have lobbied the Texas State Legislation and state agencies on veterans issues. Another example of our activities was working with the VA Hospital in Dallas to improve the conditions at their hospital.
In addition, we have worked with elected officials and other government officials on the local and national levels to improve the conditions for veterans.
Our future plans include promoting issues and programs for active duty and retired members of the military.
Finally, we want to welcome all veterans and non-veterans in the Democratic Party in joining with us in promoting our issues and electing Democrats who share our purpose.
